Steady North ("Steady North," "we," "us") helps you understand and manage your money. We take the privacy of your financial information seriously. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
1. Information we collect
Information you provide: your name, email address, and any preferences or goals you enter (such as a savings target).
Financial account data: when you connect a bank or card account through our data provider, Plaid, we receive account balances, transaction history, and account details (such as account type and the last four digits). We never receive or store your bank login credentials.
Receipt images (optional): if you use receipt scanning, the photo you submit is sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) to read the merchant, total, and category. It is processed only to extract those details for you — it is not used to train AI models, and we do not store it beyond completing your request.
Usage data: basic information about how you use the app, such as device type and actions taken, to keep the service working and improve it.
2. How we use your information
Calculate your "safe to spend" amount and cash-flow outlook.
Identify bills, recurring charges, and subscriptions.
Provide personalized recommendations and savings insights.
Operate, secure, support, and improve the service.
Communicate with you about your account and important updates.
3. How we share information
We do not sell your personal or financial information. We share it only:
With service providers who help us run the app (for example, Plaid for bank connectivity, and our hosting and infrastructure providers), under contracts that require them to protect your data.
For legal reasons, if required by law or to protect rights, safety, and security.
With your direction, when you ask us to.
4. Bank data and Plaid
We use Plaid Inc. to securely connect to your financial institutions. Plaid handles the login to your bank — we never see your credentials. Your use of Plaid is also governed by Plaid's End User Privacy Policy. You can disconnect a linked account at any time, which stops future data collection from that account.
5. How we protect your data
We use industry-standard safeguards, including encryption in transit and at rest, encrypted storage of sensitive tokens, least-privilege access controls, and read-only access to your accounts. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information at every layer.
6. Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time (see below). We may retain limited records where required by law.
7. Your rights and choices
Access, correct, or delete your personal information.
Disconnect any linked financial account at any time.
Close your account and request deletion of your data.
